The Linux version of the line computer only runs correctly with the SuSE distribution produced by Siemens

L&A.

The original SuSE installation package as supplied as part of the line computer SuSE distribution must not

be installed. It is only included in the line computer SuSE distribution in order to fulfill the licensing

requirements.

SOKOs (special designs) on the basis of LRL 503.03 or LRL.503.04 will not run under SuSE 9.3. An upgrade

is required.

4 Installation instructions/upgrade instructions

4.1 Definitions

4.1.1 Initial installation

At the start of an initial installation, there is no data on the hard disk. If there is no master data available, the

installation program installs sample master data on the hard disk along with the line computer software.

The prerequisite for the line computer software installation is a correctly installed SuSE-LINUX 9.3 operating

system.

4.1.2 Update

If the only difference between the new software version and the already installed version is the revision level

(e.g. LRU.503.01 ⇒ LRU.503.02), this is referred to as an update. When an update is performed, the master

data is retained.

4.1.3 Upgrade

If the new software differs from the already installed software by its version designation (e.g. LRU.502.02 ⇒

LRU.503.01), this is referred to as an upgrade. When an upgrade is performed, the master data is retained

and, if required, automatically converted to the new data format.

4.1.4 Migration from SCO to Linux

Before installing the LRL software, all the data which is to be reused must be backed up. The master data

can be reused after SuSE-LINUX 7.3 / SuSE Linux 9.0 / SuSE Linux 9.3 and LRL.503.01 - LRL.503.05 have

been installed. The backup tool SDH_Backup cannot be used for backing up data for Linux.
