Enter broadcast address for SIPLACE network card

Enter the number of the "broadcast address" and press RETURN.
The entry is displayed.

The entry of y completes the configuration of the LAN card.
A note is now displayed on the handling regarding OEM software, as well as the steps to be per-
formed following the start of the LC program (consistency check via Data Manager of setups and
line configuration).
In addition you will be informed that a version check of the station software
should be performed.
Next, the following prompt is displayed.
Please take out the CD and press <RETURN>
Remove the CD and the diskette, if applicable, and press RETURN.
Press any key on the keyboard.
After a short time a message is displayed on the screen requesting you to reboot the system.

Press any key on the keyboard.
The computer system reboots.
CAUTION
In the event that the boot diskette (see
page 1 - 29) used for the SW installation was not the correct
one, an error message will be displayed during the shutdown process (prior to Safe to Power Off).
Upon the subsequent booting of the computer, the following queries have to be answered:
There may be a system dump memory image in the swap device!
Do you want to save a copy of it?
[y/n]
Enter n and press RETURN.
Do you want to remove the dump from the swap device now?
[y/n]
Enter y and press RETURN.
It is imperative that the two preceding questions be answered as indicated, as otherwise problems
with the operating system are likely to arise.
Okay to check the root filesystem
[y/n]
Enter y and press RETURN.
After a while, the "Login" dialog box (see
chapt. 2, section 2.1.1) appears.
Type plr in the "login" editing field and press the RETURN key.
Type plr in the "Password" editing field and press the RETURN key.
The LC software is started with the selected desktop configuration and language.
ATTENTION !
After any initial installation of the LC software has been carried out, it is mandatory that following
start-up of the line computer the stations be configured with the aid of the Configuration Editor (see
chapt. 12) before proceeding further. Subsequently, the line must be configured with the aid of the Line
Editor (see
chapt. 12).
Whenever an Update or Upgrade of the LC software is performed, it is absolutely necessary that
after the software has been started up, all set-ups be checked for consistency using the "Consistency
Checker" (see chapt. 4, section 4.3.4.6).
NOTE
Upon the first log-on to the LC system, the users "line engineer", "programmer", "operator" do not initially
have a password.
The user "supervisor" has the password "supervisor". Following the software installation, this password
needs to be changed by an authorized person.

2 General Information on Using
the Program
This part of the instructions describes the user interface with its basic elements and functions. It teaches you
the following basics of using the user interface and its constituent elements:
- Starting/stopping the line computer program
- Shapes of the mouse cursor and mouse handling conventions
- Window types, window layout, window operations
- Directory/file structures
- Layout and operation of the FSB (File Selector Box = dialog box for file selection)
- Description of the application program menus "FILE", "OPTIONS" and "HELP"
- Working with the Help Index
Users who are not yet familiar with the user interface of WINDOWS should be sure to read this chapter before
attempting to use the program.
