Replacing the Z-axis ball screw
Chapter 3 - Replacing the Z-axis Ball Screw
Before replacing the ball screw, it is necessary to remove the stepping motor and IPS
camera. When reinstalling them on the head, specialized jigs are required. Therefore,
be sure to prepare the jigs before replacing the Z-axis ball screw.
3.1 Removing the Z-axis Ball Screw
1. Remove the following cover.
2. Disconnect the connectors from the control board.
3. Loosen the 4 bolts on the coupling connecting the Z-axis motor to the ball screw.
4. Remove the two mounting bolts for the Z-axis motor and then remove the motor.

Replacing the Z-axis ball screw
5. Remove the coupling.
6. Disconnect the two IPS camera flat cables from the control board, and then loosen the
two mounting bolts for the retaining bracket.
7. Loosen the four mounting bolts to remove the IPS camera.

Replacing the Z-axis ball screw
8. Remove the stepping motor from the head.
9. Remove the stepping motor, IPS mounting bracket, and spool up/down arm assembly.
10. Set the spanner at the bottom of the ball screw and loosen the double nut located at
the top of the ball screw.
Set the 5mm thin spanner
(PB37510) at the cut out of the
ball screw.
Use the 8mm spanner
for the double nut
