For the relevant configurations and other options, refer to the individual specifications for the SI-
PLACE SX1/SX2 machines.
6.1 Nozzle changer
Nozzle changers can greatly increase the flexibility of the placement heads for processing differ-
ent types of component. If the placement program requires a nozzle change, then the placement
head automatically returns the old nozzle to the nozzle holder and picks up the new nozzle. Noz-
zles that were separated out during the vacuum check can also be quickly changed.
It is significantly more exact and faster to pick up nozzles from a nozzle changer than would be
possible manually. When placing small components, it is essential to minimize the radial eccen-
tricity during nozzle rotation.
The basic design of the nozzle changer is identical for the SIPLACE SpeedStar, 12 segment Col-
lect&Place head and the SIPLACE MultiStar heads. However, make sure that you always use the
correct nozzle magazines for the specific head.

WARNING
Risk of head crashes with mixed configurations!
If a nozzle magazine for the SIPLACE MultiStar is used at a location with a SIPLACE
SpeedStar or 12 segment Collect&Place head, this could lead to a head crash.
Only install the associated nozzle changer for each placement head, with the nozzle
magazines for the respective placement head.

6.1.1.1 Description
This nozzle changer can accommodate 4 magazines, each with 12 nozzle garages.
The magazines are seated on a common support. They are centered with two parallel pins and
fixed in place with 4 push buttons. The exact position is determined with two fiducials on each
magazine. The correct seat of the magazines on the basic nozzle changer body is monitored by
microswitches, to prevent a collision of the placement head with any magazines projecting up-
wards. All magazine locations must be filled since the safety circuit stops the machine in response
to missing magazines or magazines that are not seated correctly.
At the installed nozzle station, components can be blown off the nozzles of the SpeedStar and noz-
zles stripped off and rejected.
6
CAUTION
Only use the magazine for the SIPLACE SpeedStar together with the SpeedStar.
