Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Clothing and Equipment worn to reduce the risk
of personal injury from hazards associated with
operation, maintenance, and servicing of the
Cure Module. This includes the wearing of
rubber gloves and safety glasses.
PLC: Programmable Logic Controller.
Computer-like, electronic device that controls
and manages the operation of the Cure Module.
Like a computer, the PLC has a power supply,
microprocessor chip, RAM memory,
input/output and communication ports, and must
be programmed to do its function.
Port: An opening in a mechanical device such
as the Conveyor port or the Exhaust Port at the
rear of the Cure Module.
Process Engineer: A technical level position.
The Process Engineer designs and develops
processes for automated electronic packaging
using production line equipment.
Production Shutdown: When the Cure Module
has been stopped under non-emergency
conditions such as the end of a shift.
PWA: Printed Wiring Assembly. The completed
PWB with electrical components installed. Also
known as a printed circuit board assembly
(PCBA).
PWB: Printed Wiring Board. An insulating
board containing conductive tracks for electrical
circuit connections on which chips and other
electronic components are placed.
Safety Interlock: A safety device used to
restrict access to the inside of the Cure Module
while the system is operating.
SCFM: Standard Cubic Feet per Minute. A unit
of flow of a liquid or gas.
Service Shutdown: When the Cure Module is
stopped and made safe so that servicing can be
performed.
Service Technician: Trained personnel
responsible for performing advanced system
servicing procedures.
SMEMA: Surface Mount Equipment
Manufacturers Association. Established protocol
for signal communication between two or more
different systems.
Traffic: The group of workpieces on the
Conveyor that are moving through the Cure
Module. A traffic fault occurs when sensors
along the Conveyor indicate that there is a delay
or disruption in the flow of workpieces.
Ultraviolet (UV) Light: The invisible region of
the light spectrum just beyond the violet end of
the visible region. The wavelength range, in
general, is from 1.0 to 400 nm. UV light is
subdivided into three distinct wavelength
regions described as UV-A, UV-B, or UV-C in
increasing order of photon energy
UV Curing System: A set of electrical and
mechanical components arranged to generate,
collect, condition and direct UV radiant energy,
for the curing of adhesives, coatings, and inks,
within a safe and controlled technological
process. A UV Curing System typically consists
of a lamp housing, power supply, and UV light
shields and enclosures.
UV Lamp: A light source (bulb) generating
ultraviolet energy from mercury stimulated by
microwaves. The Lamp is conditioned by a
high-voltage power supply. The bulb is placed
into a reflector housing that increases light
source efficiency by collecting and directing the
UV radiant energy. UV light from the Lamp
generates fast and complete curing of
photosensitive adhesives, coatings, and inks.
VAC: Volts Alternating Current.
VDC: Volts Direct Current.
Workpiece: Any surface, part, or element
(usually a PWB) coated with a material being
cured by UV light. Workpieces may be installed
in a carrier.
