Scope of Functions with Flexible Family Setup
SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant (MSA) with flexible family setups allows the reuse of materials in the
presetup area. This is the default procedure when working with the SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant.

1.1.1
1.1.1 Material Reuse in Presetup Area
Material Reuse in Presetup Area
SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant enables you to reuse materials in the pre-setup area. Materials (feed
-
er with packaging unit), which are taken back from a line to the pre-setup area, can be used again for
the next setup. The system determines the material which can be used again for the next setups or which
materials need to be torn down. The status is shown with the help of the status LED on the feeder. The
status LED shines green on the feeder for reused material, otherwise the LED flashes red.
General sequence
1. Configured changeover tables arrive back from the line at the presetup area.
2. By scanning the control barcode Signal material reuse on the docking station, the docking station
mode switches from Setup verification to Signal material reuse.
3. Move the changeover table into the docking stations.
4. The system recognizes whether these feeders with packaging units are needed in the next setups.
The status LED on the feeder will show the status.
– The status LEDs on the feeders shine green: this feeder is being reused.
– The status LED on the feeder flashes red: this feeder is NOT being reused.
5. The feeders shining green will be placed in the feeder rack for later use.
6. The red flashing feeders will be torn down and the material taken back to the warehouse.
This sequence ensures that the reused materials remain in the presetup area of the relevant lines. This
function can be used for all lines which are supplied by a joint presetup area.
Basic preconditions
To ensure correct determination of the reused materials, SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant must know
the production schedules and the sequence of setups for all lines.
The setups and recipes are created in SIPLACE Pro and must be optimized with the help of the known
optimization functions (standard optimizer, SiCluster Professional, SiCluster Multiline). The setups and
recipes are then imported into the Order Manager.
The production scheduler defines the order of setups and recipes for the individual lines in the Order
Manager. This then approves the production order generated.

1.1.2 Determining the Material Demand for Setup Preparation
Determining the Material Demand for Setup Preparation
SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant automatically determines the required materials for the setup prepa
-
ration. Reused and available material is automatically taken into account and not requested again. Only
the materials actually needed are recorded and can be picked from the warehouse.
The material demand is determined as soon as the production scheduler approves the scheduled pro
-
duction order in the Order Manager.

1.1.3 Support with Active Feeder Pool (AFP)
Support with Active Feeder Pool (AFP)
The Active Feeder Pool (AFP) serves as a temporary warehouse for parking feeders in the presetup area
for reuse later on. Feeder racks are used as AFP hardware. In addition, docking stations with changeo
-
ver table can be used as AFP hardware.
AFP Hardware
▪ Feeder Racks
– The individual feeders are taken off the changeover table and parked in this feeder rack. Com
-
munication between the feeders and the system is established in the feeder rack. These feeder
racks are configured in ASM Setup Center in the Material reuse mode.
▪ Docking station
– If the docking station is operated in Signal material reuse mode, feeders can be parked on a
docked changeover table and the material reuse can be handled like in a feeder rack. The dock
-
ing station is switched into the appropriate mode via the Signal material reuse control barcode
in ASM Setup Center.
The feeder LED shows the status of reuse for the feeders parked in the AFP hardware.
Handling reusable materials
The user is well supported by the status LEDs on the feeders, the extensions in ASM Setup Center and
the combination with AFP hardware (feeder racks and docking stations).
The feeders with their LED shining green will be placed in the feeder rack for later use. See also "1.1.1
Material Reuse in Presetup Area" [ ➙ 128].
Feeder racks for setup preparation
If the changeover tables are to be prepared for a setup, SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant supports the
setup preparation through the feeder rack and the status LEDs of the feeders. When a setup and a lo
-
cation have been chosen, the status LEDs of the required feeders flash green. The status LEDs on all
not required feeders switch into the OFF state. Thus, the correct feeders can be easily found. The feed
-
ers that are flashing green can be set up on the relevant changeover table.
NOTICE
Available docking stations and feeder racks
For an optimum SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant workflow, there should be one to two dock
-
ing stations per presetup area and several feeder racks available.
NOTICE
Target track view
The Target track view dialog that is called via the menu bar Extras => Target track view shows
the track on the table to be set up onto which the just picked feeder needs to be placed.

Scope of Functions with Fixed Setup and Constant Tables
SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant (MSA) with fixed setups and constant tables is supported; however,
the workflow needs to be adapted and the scope of functions of SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant
(MSA) is different. See chapter "6 Workflow with Fixed Setup and Constant Tables" [ ➙ 225] for a de
-
scription of the deviations in the workflow and the scope of functions.
Overview
In contrast to flexible family setups, fixed setups are installed once and reused several times without be
-
ing torn down in the meantime. Changeover tables for a fixed setup are usually "parked" near the line as
long as they are not in use. The material on these tables is not used elsewhere apart from a few excep
-
tions (e.g. the last present reel). As soon as the fixed setup is no longer in use, all changeover tables are
torn down and the material is returned to the warehouse.
Constant tables function in a similar way, with the additional option of combining flexible and constant
tables at the relevant locations. A constant table is installed once and reused several times. Usually, the
constant table is used in different setups. In a typical scenario, e.g., one side of the line is set up with
constant tables and the other side with flexible tables. As soon as the constant table is no longer in use,
it is torn down and the material is returned to the warehouse.
Features
▪ Changeover tables for fixed setups and constant tables are always linked to a line. They cannot be
used on a different line.
▪ Reusing material in the presetup area is not relevant as the constant tables are usually parked near
the line.
▪ Material for fixed setups and constant tables is usually not stored on the AFP hardware (feeder racks
or docking stations). After the production, these changeover tables are simply "parked" near the line
without being torn down.
▪ Planned fixed setups and constant tables cannot be used in the next but one setup (n+2 rule in flex
-
ible family setups). These changeover tables can only be used in directly successive setups; in most
cases, they are kept near the respective station.
