z They should put on safety shoes.
It is advisable that they should wear safety shoes to avoid injuries that may be caused
while they are handling a heavy stuff such as a motor.
It may sometimes be recommended that service personnel should wear the customer
specified pairs of shoes.
z When more than one person should be engaged in servicing, a leader should
be selected in advance. The others should follow the leader's instructions.
A group of people in charge of servicing work should clearly understand the
assignments to avoid any misjudgment or mistaken actions.
For safety purposes, it is really essential to select a leader who will decide what or
how to do next and give proper assignments to the others.
z Be sure to turn off the power unless necessary.
"Power ON" means that the machine can be activated at any time.
As long as the machine has some defects, it must be assumed that the machine will
work in an unexpected condition.
It is strongly advisable that the power should always be kept off unless necessary.
z When the machine should be powered, be sure to confirm the location of the
[EMERGENCY STOP] switches and the [POWER] switch beforehand to be
ready for emergencies.
The past reported cases indicate that most of the accidents must have been avoided by
pressing an [EMERGENCY STOP] switch.
Unfortunately some accidents were not avoided because any one of the
[EMERGENCY STOP] switches was not pushed.
When a hazardous element is perceived, an [EMERGENCY STOP] switch must be
pushed immediately, giving no time to visually confirm the location of the button.
An accident will occur so suddenly that no one can think of even pressing an
[EMERGENCY STOP] switch.
Whenever you or someone else enters a hazardous area, one of you must put your
hand on an [EMERGENCY STOP] switch and get ready for pressing it at an
emergency before the other one starts any assigned job.

z Be sure to select the rear one and lock it, making it unavailable to perform
any operations on the front operation panel.
If someone else can easily switch over to his or her desired panel, it is very dangerous
because he or she can operate the machine any time even though you are not ready for
it.
Be sure to lock the operation panel to avoid any major injuries.
z When more than one person are working, ensure good communication by
giving loud verbal instructions for safety purposes.
When several people are engaged in maintenance work, all of them cannot keep the
same observation (observer's eye) and the same way of thinking.
Whenever a person activates the machine, he or she should give a clear signal such as
"Power ON" to the others and the others should give a clear response such as "OK" to
the operator. No confirmation will result in a major injury.
It is important to have good timing between verbal instructions and responses, paying
attention to the intervals. People working should not get too much accustomed to this
signal exchange and no one should operate the machine without the best timing for
each other.
It will be most regrettable if an accident is caused by wrong operations.
z Before work, it is advisable to discuss whether or not it is surely required to
enter a moving area of the machine for repair work.
It is, of course, better to keep away from any moving area of the machine as long as
some other ways (even if a way might be somewhat troublesome) are possible for
repair.
Remember "Consideration leads to safe and efficient results!".
z Be sure to check the pattern program data for a test run by actually making
the machine perform a series of actions (from "Start" to "Stop"). After the good
performance is confirmed, proceed to your work in the safe range.
The machine works in various ways, depending on the executed pattern program and
the results of detection in execution.
It is required to carefully confirm that the [PAUSE] button works correctly and the
pattern program data for a test run does not have any deficiencies in addition to the
confirmation to a series of actions based on the pattern program data for a test run.
It should also be understood that safety is accredited only with the results, not with
the confirmation.
If you don't have a confidence, do not hesitate to ask another one repeatedly if the
steps (procedure) selected by you is correct or not.

z The machine must be operated by the person who made the pattern program
data and no one else should work as his/her substitute.
Every movement of the machine is determined by the pattern program data specified
as a current one.
If an operator who does not fully understand this data operates the machine as a
substitute of the data creator, there is a possibility to cause various misunderstandings.
This is something like asking someone else in place of you to drive a car in
darkness on a road that has no traffic signs.
z Be sure to turn off the power before leaving the machine unattended in the
middle of a test run.
Although you intend to leave the workplace for a short period of time, you may not be
able to come back for many hours. This happens frequently in our daily life.
After you have left the workplace, it cannot be avoided that someone else may operate
the machine.
Never leave the machine along with the power being turned ON, the safety doors
being unlocked, and the sensors being deactivated.
Be aware that you are charged with some responsibility not only for your co-workers
but also for the others.
z When some safety area sensors, safety covers, etc., must be detached
inevitably from the machine for servicing work, the machine and the
hazardous areas must be kept inaccessible to any person on the customer
side.
We never know when a person on the customer side enters the hazardous areas of the
machine (with the safety doors being open and the sensors being deactivated) during
our servicing work.
Keep the hazardous areas inaccessible, using a barricade tape, etc.
