The measuring range of 1.84mm displayed above is a sample values. The values 863 and 912 rep-
resent the highest and lowest measured values of the laser focus, in counts.
NOTE
The following is to be checked: The value of the measuring range must be at least 1.5 mm.
The measurement will always be continued automatically, however, in the case of an error this
measuring routine is subsequently to be repeated, starting from the main menu.
If the value of 1.5 mm is still not reached when the measurement is repeated,
consult the SMD Service of Siemens AG.
10. The X and Y-coordinates are determined. When so doing, the outer edge of the calibration nozzle is
determined and the center of the laser focus in X and Y-directions is calculated therefrom.
During this measuring process, the figures "> 0" and " -1" are continuously displayed on the screen:
Figure -1 = laser beam is outside of calibration nozzle area = edge found = O.K.
Figure 0 = laser beam is on laser calibration nozzle
The measurement is performed repeatedly (7x in all), with the newly calculated center being used as
starting point for the next measurement.
After each measurement the X and Y-coordinates of the laser focus are displayed in mm, referred to
the reference point.
If an error occurs during the measuring procedure, the following screen display appears:
TOLERANCE OF DEVIATION IN X OR Y DIRECTION TOO LARGE
PRESS <RETURN>
Acknowledge this message with "RETURN". The screen display shown under point 14 appears.
If you do not wish to repeat the calibration, proceed as described under step 19.
If the measurement is to be repeated, simply press the "END" button on the teach panel and restart
calibration from the main menu (see procedure above).
11. If the measurement is satisfactory the following screen display appears, as for example:
LASER CALIBRATION
FOCUSING RANGE IN MM 1.84 863 912
X-,Y-COORDINATES OF LASER FOCUS 373.64 3.31
X-,Y-COORDINATES OF LASER FOCUS 373.65 3.32
etc.
’TEACH’ PLACEMENT HEAD OVER COMPONENT CAMERA
PRESS THE END-KEY ON THE TEACH PANEL
12. Teach the placement head with the laser calibration nozzle installed so that it is centered above component
camera and press the "END" button on the teach panel. Thus the relationship between the laser focus
and the upper edge of the conveyor belt (head height) is established.
13. The following screen display appears:
OLD LASER COORDINATES (X,Y,Z) 373.66 8.64 9.13
NEW LASER COORDINATES (X,Y,Z) 373.64 8.63 9.12
The new coplan. data are automatically transferred to the main memory.

14. The following display appears on the screen:
LASER CALIBRATION
PLEASE REMOVE THE CALIBRATION UNIT.
MACHINE MOVING TO SERVICE POSITION
PLEASE PRESS <START> KEY
PLEASE PRESS <START> KEY
Performance of the action:
Wait for the placement head to assume the service position Open the protective cover remove
the laser calibration nozzle (= measuring part) install the nozzle required for the following activities
tighten the ring nut without pinching the O-ring close protective cover switch on the control
press the "START" button display of the main menu.
15. Select now "STORING" to transfer the coplan. values from the main memory to the file
MA_ZUSATZ or "_ .sk-" and "_ .kd" of the work diskette.
16. The AutoCal Routine Check procedure of the machine is thus terminated !
Remove the work diskette and carry out any final work required (see section 10.1).
7.16 MEASURE ANY HOLE (REPEATEDLY)
Skip this menu option when carrying out the Routine Check. This measuring routine is only intended for
testing purposes. Observe the description of this menu option (see 5.1.18).
Testing aids required
Steel nozzle, type 104, item no. 00301435
Teach panel, external, item no. 00132207
1. From the main menu, select "MEASURE ANY HOLE (REPEATEDLY)". The HOLE MEASURING MENU
is displayed:
HOLE MEASURING MENU
NUMBER OF MEASURING CYCLES 1
WAITING TIME BETWEEN MEASURING CYCLES [MIN] 0.0
NUMBER OF MEASUREMENTS PER HOLE 1
Move the cursor to the entry field, enter the desired values and confirm with "RETURN". The waiting
time is to be entered in minutes (6 sec. = 0.1 min.).
2. Start the measurement with "CONTINUE" (function key). The following screen display appears:

Performance of the action:
If applicable, select "slow" on the teach panel teach the nozzle so that it is centered above the hole
lower the Z-axis into the hole visual inspection: The nozzle must be properly inserted in the
holeif necessary, press "Z-AXIS UP" again correct the position using the X-Y knobs if nozzle
is in the hole press "Z-AXIS UP" press "END" on the teach panel.
3. The measuring procedure based on the initially entered criteria starts: The hole is measured in X- and
Y-directions the respective actual values determined (displayed) are compared to the setpoint values
the difference is output on the screen (values are always compared to those of the first measurement).
4. When the first measuring cycle is completed the measured values are displayed.
5. After the preset waiting time has elapsed the 2nd cycle follows automatically if it was initially entered.
6. After the measurement of all cycles the following screen display appears:
PLEASE PRESS <START> KEY
Press the "START" button. The main menu is displayed.
7.17 AXES MOVEMENT MENU
This menu is only intended for testing purposes, error isolation and axes adjustment.
Within the scope of the Routine Check it is performed only if a deviation > 2 counts was obtained during
the initially performed axis adjustment (see menu option "CHECK AXIS ADJUSTMENT").
All details regarding the use of the AXES MOVEMENT MENU are contained in the description of this menu
option in section 5.1.20.
Observe the safety instructions displayed during the execution of this menu, contained in section 2.3 !
7.18 I/O MENU
This menu is only selected for testing purposes and error isolation.
Disregard this menu option when carrying out the Routine Check.
All details regarding the use of the I/O MENU are contained in the description of this menu option in section
5.1.21.
Read the safety instructions contained in section 2.4 prior to the execution of this menu option.
In particular, take heed of the WARNING in section 2.4 upon the concurrent setting of outputs!
