Up to batch identity no. 3 the conveyor is to be adjusted now (= before the message "PLEASE IN-
SERT MAPPING BOARD" is displayed) to the appropriate width for inserting the mapping plate,
using the handwheel.
4. Confirm by pressing the "START" button. If a PCB is still on the conveyor a message is displayed on the
screen, as for example:
PLEASE CLEAR INPUT CONVEYOR
PLEASE CLEAR CENTRE CONVEYOR
PRESS <RETURN>
Performance of the action: Open the protective cover remove PCB(s) additional visual in-
spection: The traversing range of the component table must be completely free of obstructions (tools,
gauges, etc.) close protective cover switch the control on Press "RETURN".
5. The conveyor automatically adjusts itself to the width of the mapping plate. At the same time the placement
head is positioned above the movable component table and the elevating table is raised. The following
display appears on the screen:
PLEASE INSERT MAPPING BOARD
PLEASE PRESS <START> KEY
First assemble the centering square (individual parts contained in the mapping case):
Screw the web on to the centering rail from underneath (2 M3 socket-head cap screws).
When doing so, note the following: All spacers must face upwards. The centering pin beveled on both
sides serves to compensate for tolerances. After placing the centering square on the conveyor, this pin
must be located at the output conveyor and at right angles to the direction of travel.
Performance of the action displayed:
Open the right-hand protective cover pull elevating table rail (on the fixed conveyor side) straight up-
wards and out of the column guide insert centering square in the column guides check whether the
centering square has made proper contact straight from above place the mapping plate carefully (!) onto
the centering pins of the square: the mapping plate must not be tilted over the centering pins when so do-
ing! check whether there is proper contact at each of the three points of support Visual inspection:
Remove everything from the surface of the mapping plate (nozzle, tools, etc.); the steel nozzle installed
must be in perfect condition close protective cover switch on the control press the "START" button.
6. The following display appears on the screen:
IS NOZZLE IN ORIGINAL HOLE (5 mm) ? YES/NO
Check whether the nozzle was able to be properly inserted into the measuring hole. Press the appro-
priate function key YES / NO.
7. If NO is selected the following display appears on the screen:
GUIDE NOZZLE INTO LARGE MEASURING HOLE (5MM)
USE TEACH-PANEL
Performance of the action: Analogously to section 7.3, point 5 press "END" on the teach panel.
8. If YES is pressed, the following display appears on the screen:
DETERMINE MACHINE ZERO POSITION
The deviation of the MA-zero point of the mapping plate and the correction values are displayed:

DEVIATION OF MEASURED MACHINE ZERO POSITION (X , Y) -1 -1 DIGIT
CORRECTION VALUES (X , Y) -23113 -3474
CORRECT MACHINE ZERO POSITION? (YES / NO)
9. It is absolutely necessary that you reply to the query with YES (function key). The MA-zero point of the
mapping plate is required as reference value for the measurement of the plate. It is not transferred to the
MA-Data.
10. The procedure for measuring the mapping plate starts.
Action to be performed if the following error message is displayed: "DETERMINATION OF
HOLE CENTRE IMPOSSIBLE".
Press "RETURN" to return to the MAPPING MENU open protective cover.
Check whether the mapping plate is correctly installed (see above, from point 7 onwards).
Close protective cover press the "START" button complete measurement starting with
"START MEASUREMENT".
If a measuring error occurs again: Examine the possible causes listed below.
Possible causes:
Position control of the axes is not within the acceptable tolerance of 2 counts "CHECK AXIS AD-
JUSTMENT".
Counting error / error on glass measuring scale see Service Manual, chapter "Gantry".
Gantry offset outside tolerance = inform SMD Service of Siemens AG.
Mapping plate is damaged or the steel nozzle used for the measurement was not in perfect condition.
11. The evenness of the plate is measured adjacent to the 4 corner holes and the values are displayed.
MAPPING PLATE UNEVENLY PLACED
1298 1309 1180 1302
Action to be performed if the error message "MAPPING PLATE UNEVENLY PLACED" is displayed:
Open protective cover check whether the place makes proper contact at each of the three points of
support if necessary, re-install the plate close protective cover switch on the control press
"RETURN"MAPPING MENU is displayed Select "START MEASUREMENT" the measuring
procedure incl. MEASURING MACHINE ZERO POSITION is repeated (see procedure above).
If an error message is displayed again: Use different mapping plate (if available) or inform the
SMD Service of Siemens AG.
NOTE
The height difference must not be corrected by using shims!
12. The plate is measured, using the values determined to date and the deviation is displayed:
MAPPING
X-Soll Y-Soll X-Ist Y-Ist X-Diff Y-Diff
18.400 63.000 18.400 62.945 0.000 -.055
13. After the complete plate has been measured, press "RETURN" to return to the MAPPING MENU.
14. Now select the "SAVE RESULTS IN PASSPOINT FILE" menu option.
The results (except for the MA-zero point correction) are transferred to the work diskette.

15. Now you can select:
"DISPLAY RESULTS ON SCREEN" = the data just determined are displayed again on the screen.
"PRINT OUT RESULTS" = the data determined, incl. graphics, are printed out.
16. Continue as follows:
If you do not wish to perform any more "comparison measurement", you can obtain a printout of the
measurement, provided a printer is connected, proceeding as follows:
Select the menu option "PRINT OUT RESULTS".
Perform all steps as described in the following section, from point 4 onwards.
Attach this printout of the "measurement" to the logbook of the machine.
Perform the comparison measurement for the determined values in accordance with the section below.
7.9.3 Procedure: "START COMPARISON MEASUREMENT"
For routine and individual checks it is recommended to perform the comparison measurement with respect
to the values determined by means of "START MEASUREMENT".
1. Continue the measuring procedure by selecting "START COMPARISON MEASUREMENT".
The measurement of the mapping plate (= of the gantry) is repeated, starting with the MA-zero point,
as previously described under "START MEASUREMENT".
Respond to the query "SAVE MA-ZERO POINT CORRECTION?" again with YES.
The internally calculated deviations are again displayed under the "CHECK" column (see below).
NOTE
If the "START MEASUREMENT" procedure is not performed and the mapping file from the work diskette
is loaded for the comparison measurement, the values in this file will be compared.
Display of the deviations determined:
MAPPING CHECK
X -ACT. Y-NOM. X-ACT. Y-ACT. X-DIFF. Y-DIFF. X-CRTL Y-CRTL
18.400 63.000 18.400 62.945 0.000 -.055 0.000 0.002
etc.
2. The deviations displayed under "CHECK" should not be larger than ± 0.02 mm.
Deviations > ± 0.02 mm: correct error (see above) select "START MEASUREMENT".
If deviations occur again > ± 0.02 mm: Determine the cause (see below).
To perform troubleshooting, you may have to exit from the AutoCal program.
Subsequently repeat the measurement, starting with "START MEASUREMENT".
Possible causes of error if deviations > 0.02 mm occur again:
The position control of the positioning axes is not optimal (see menu option "CHECK AXIS ADJUSTMENT").
The slide block / positioning axes has/have not been serviced (see User’s Manual).
3. Deviations ≤ ± 0.02 mm: Select "SAVE RESULTS IN PASSPOINT FILE" !
