Basic Safety Instructions
This chapter describes the basic safety instructions.
It contains the following sections:
General safety (Page 20)
Responsibilities of the Operating Company (Page 21)
General safety
The inspection system is constructed according to acknowledged
machine safety regulations (ISO, DIN, EN, ANSI, UL, CSA, FDA,
CCC).
The inspection system fulfils all requirements for a fully protected
device according to German X-ray regulations from 4 October
2011 and US Standard 21 CFR§ 1020 - 40.
This system generates X-rays that are dangerous to humans.
Construction as a fully shielded device with redundant safety
circuits on system doors and lift gates, and monitored warning
lamps, guarantee a high level of safety.
Viscom certifies the observation of current norms as listed in the
accompanying conformity statement. Nonetheless, noncompliance
with the stated safety instructions during operation of the system
can result in dangers to life and limb of the user or third parties
and/or damage to the system or other material assets.
The state of each Viscom inspection system regarding its technical
safety is verified before it is delivered. To maintain this state, and
assure a safe operation, all users must observe all instructions and
warnings contained in this manual.
The following general safety instructions apply:
The system may only be used in technically sound order and
condition, with awareness of safety and dangers, under obser-
vance of the operating manual.
The system may not be altered or modified in any way without
previous consultation with the Viscom AG. Otherwise, Viscom is
excluded from all liability.
The connection, use, and power specifications must be
observed.
The operation-specific safety regulations of the country the
system is operated in must be observed.
Any disruption of the ground/earth cable, in the power supply
line or in the inspection system itself, is not allowed and can
lead to an electrical hazard from the system.
No impermissible electromagnetic effects or electrostatic fields
may be allowed to act on the system.

The operating manual must always be kept in the immediate
vicinity of the inspection system to allow permanent access.
Unregulated access by persons not required for operation to the
immediate operating area of the system - also in situations
when the system is not operating - is forbidden.
If there is a danger of fire, switch off the system and pull out
the main cable plug.
Responsibilities of the Operating Company
The operating company has the following responsibilities:
Only trained and authorized personnel may be employed on the
system.
The operating personnel must be properly instructed.
The setup persons must regularly receive schooling.
Observance of all safety requirements must be monitored.
Corresponding responsibilities for all work on the system must
be known and be clearly defined, and their observance must be
monitored.
