5.2.5.3 Axis Control of TwinHead Z Axis
Axis Control of TwinHead Z Axis
The Z axis is driven by a 3-phase AC linear motor. The intermediate circuit voltage is 60 V (for high force
TwinHead 120 V). Axis control is via two control signals from the VC3 controller (phase shift 120°) I nom
"W" and I nom "U". The third phase is generated at the servo amplifier.
Checking the TwinHead Z Axis Dynamics
Axis control of TwinHead Z axis
1. Axis controller board A363 with VC3 controller (VC =
Velocity Commutation)
2. Control signals
3. Servo amplifier
4. LEDs on servo amplifier:
5. 3-phase AC linear motor with integrated temperature
sensor.
6. Between the motor and the incremental scale there is
a fixed mechanical connection. The incremental en-
coder is fixed to the TwinHead housing.
7. Read unit: transmits the exact position of the axis
(track signals).
8. Force sensor
The servo board controls the 3-phase AC motor directly.
CAUTION
Switch machine on 30 mins before start
Before adjusting the axes, make sure that the machine has reached its operating temperature.
Switch the machine on at least 30 minutes before you begin work.

Assignment of output leads by the SIPLACE Axis tester and connection to the oscilloscope.
The axis dynamics are checked with continuous operation in free space. A motor current signals is trans-
mitted at the V nominal output. The uncommutated current signal (signal 3) shows the friction for the axis
system. The current signal amplitude increases as the friction rises.
The positioning time for the Z axis is 84 ms +/-2 ms.
SITEST:
► Select TwinHead ==> Axis functions
==> Select segment ==> Select Z axis
==> Axis continuous run
==> Edit and accept values:
Target position: 50000 µm = 100000 digits; = travel range for placement
Positioning type: absolute. Waiting period: 100 ms
► Press the START button if required.
1 The Vnom. output signal is currently not
needed for checking the HF dynamics.
3 Position deviation connected at CH1
2 Uncommutated current signal (Vreg), con-
nected to CH2
4 End position signal: connected at CH3
