3. Needle Offset
The alignment between the glue position specified in the program sequences and the actual
glue dispensing position is not always exact. The needle offset command is used to
compensate for this difference. The coordinates used for needle offset compensation are the X,
Y, and θ coordinates.
3.1 Procedure for Measuring the Needle Offsets
(1) Confirm that glue is not being dispensed in the needle center measurement area.
If the board has been dirtied by glue, wipe it clean with a cloth soaked in cleaning
solvent.
(2) Inch the X- and Y-axis to the starting position for glue dispensing and enter the
servo count readings at this position into the Proper data items
254: Glue_check_orgn_position_X and 255: Glue_check_orgn_position_Y.
(The start position is determined visually by the operator.)
Note: To save this data it must be entered manually in the Proper data stored in F4G. It
cannot be saved by using the “Receive Proper” command. Once this data is saved
in Proper data, there is no need to save it again unless the starting position is
changed.
(3) Press [SET] -> [MANUAL] -> [NEEDLE] -> [Z1], (Z2), (Z3) -> [OK] -> [NOW POS]
(DEFAULT POS). After selecting the Z-axis on which to perform needle offset, the
START button is enabled.
(4) Press the START button to dispense glue at the specified position. The position of
the dispensed glue is then measured by the mark camera.
(5) The measured needle offset values are retained in the following Proper data items:
256: Needle_offset_X_Z1 offset of Z1 nozzle X-coordinates (0.01 mm)
257: Needle_offset_X_Z2 offset of Z2 nozzle X-coordinates (0.01 mm)
258: Needle_offset_X_Z3 offset of Z3 nozzle X-coordinates (0.01 mm)
259: Needle_offset_Y_Z1 offset of Z1 nozzle Y-coordinates (0.01 mm)
260: Needle_offset_Y_Z2 offset of Z2 nozzle Y-coordinates (0.01 mm)
261: Needle_offset_Y_Z3 offset of Z3 nozzle Y-coordinates (0.01 mm)
262: Needle_offset_Q_Z1 offset of Z1 nozzle θ-coordinates (pulse)
263: Needle_offset_Q_Z2 offset of Z2 nozzle θ-coordinates (pulse)
264: Needle_offset_Q_Z3 offset of Z3 nozzle θ coordinates (pulse)
Note: To retain the needle offset Proper data in F4G, execute the receive Proper
command.
