3.9 X feeder modules for SIPLACE SX4/DX4
The SIPLACE SX4/DX4 machines use the entire spectrum of the SIPLACE X feeder modules. All
SIPLACE X feeder modules are compatible with the changeover tables of the SIPLACE SX4 and
with the DX tables/DX changeover tables of the SIPLACE DX4. Key properties of the SIPLACE X
feeder modules include the high precision of the pickup position, online programmability, status
displays on an LCD display and simple handling for feeder module changes during the placement
process. The power supply to the feeder modules is contactless and uses an inductive interface.
Each feeder module communicates with the feeder module control unit (FCU) via two optoelec-
tronic channels (optical fiber). The two interfaces form the EDIF assembly (energy and data inter-
face, see item 2 in fig. 3.9 - 1
, page 150 ). The feeder module control unit is connected to the
control unit of the machine via the CAN bus.
3.9.1 Tape feeder modules for the SIPLACE X series
3.9.1.1 Tape material
The tape widths for the SIPLACE SX4 range from 8 mm to 88 mm. Tape widths of 8 mm to 16 mm
are recommended for the SIPLACE DX4. The tape material is blister or paper. Component tapes
with a permanently adhesive cover foil (PSA foil) can also be processed. This will require the "PSA
Kit" option.
The design of the tape feeder modules was based on the following tape standards:
DIN EN 60286-3 (12/1998) / IEC 60286-3 (12/1997)
JIS C 0806-3 (1999)
ANSI/EIA 481-C (10/2003) 3
The overall height of the blister tapes depends on the tape width, and must not exceed the follow-
ing maximum values:
For 8 mm paper tapes, the paper thickness must not exceed 1.6 mm. The length of a component
pocket in the direction of tape travel may not exceed 51 mm.

12 mm max. 6.5 mm

3.9.1.2 Tape reel diameter
SIPLACE SX4 3
The tape reel diameter may be up to 19" (483 mm) for all feeder modules. For a list of the maxi-
mum tape reel diameters, in accordance with the PCB conveyor height, refer to section 3.10.8.2
,
page 185
.
SIPLACE DX4 3
The tape reel diameter may be up to 15" (381 mm) for all feeder modules.
3.9.1.3 Manual removal of tantalum capacitors that were not picked up by the operator
To prevent tantalum capacitors which were not picked up from causing the tape material to burn
when it is cut, the user interface has been extended to include the option "Bei Abholfehler Bauele-
ment aus dem Gurt nehmen". This option must be enabled in SIPLACE Pro. On the placement
machine, the component that was not picked up is paced forward again until it is ready for removal
from the component tape. The track is deactivated and the operator is sent an error message to
remind him to pick up the tantalum component from the tape. If an alternative track is available,
the machine continues placing. The operator is able to stop the machine, however, and pick up
the tantalum component. If no alternative track is available and it is not possible to continue place-
ment with other components, the machine will stop. At this point, the operator can again remove
the tantalum component and acknowledge the error. Once the operator has restarted the ma-
chine, placement is continued and components are picked up from the track that is now enabled
once more.
PLEASE NOTE 3
This software function is also a good idea for expensive components. Please observe the safety
instructions for capacitors on metallic powder basis (see section 2.5.3, page 56).
