1.4 Glossary
This chapter defines some of the terms used throughout this manual.
Advance Pick-Up
To increase throughput, parts are picked up for the next board, while that board is being
loaded.
Device Table
A rack onto which tape feeders are loaded, including the moving rack at the rear of CP-
series machines.
Global Skip Mark
Like a block skip mark, the machine inspects a specified location on the board for a mark
(this is the block skip mark position for block 0). If a mark is detected, the machine
knows that one of the blocks is to be skipped. In this case it will proceed with the
reading of all block skip mark areas. If no mark is detected, the machine knows all
blocks are to be produced. Global marks can be used to save the machine from having to
inspect for all the block skip mark areas on every board.
Inching
The action of manually moving one of the machine axes using the inching keys at the
machine control panel.
In/Out Carrier
The two mechanisms located over the in- and out-conveyor, which carry the board(s) to
and from the XY-table.
In/Out Lifter
The metal plates on the inside of the in- and out-conveyor which raises or lowers the
board(s) for clamping or releasing on the in- /out-carrier.
Proper Data
This is the data transmitted to the machine from the supervisor computer (MCS/F4G)
which provides the machine with all the data necessary for it to carry out operation
based on a production program. For example, Proper data tells the machine the position
of the cameras fitted on the machine.
Multiblock Board
A board which is made of smaller boards, which are divided up after the board is
complete. The smaller boards may be cut apart or simply snap apart as is the case with
multiblock boards using break away panels. Multiblock is also referred to as multipanel.
Nozzle Holder
A nozzle holder is attached to the end of each of the twenty placing heads on the turret.
Each nozzle holder can hold up to six different nozzles (see also Turret).

Production Program
A production program is the operating instructions to enable a machine to produce all or
a specified portion of a board.
Recovery
A function where by missed part placement sequences are reattempted by the machine
before the current board is unloaded. Missed sequences can occur when a part is
rejected by the vision system following inspection or a mispick occurs and so on. Based
on recovery, the machine automatically reallocates the missed sequence ensuring the
board is complete before it is unloaded. There are three modes of recovery, 'auto', 'error
stop' and 'error pass'.
Block Skip Mark
A block skip mark is made on a block of a multiblock board. The mark can either be
applied with a marker, or a sticker can be used. This is read by the mark camera to
indicate that parts should not be placed on that block.
XY-Table
The main conveyor onto which the board(s) is loaded during assembly.
Zero-Setting
Zero-setting is a function of the machine used to reposition the servo motors (which
control the machine axes). Zero-setting must be performed when the power to the
machine is turned on, as the positions of the servo motors are cleared from the machine
memory when the power is cut.
