8.5 Blank Run
Select [2/ Production mode] in the Setting of producing conditions menu, then select
[3/ Dry run] in the submenu box.
When you select this command, the machine allows you to check each operation of
the production process without picking up/placing any component on a board.
Since the machine does not pick up or place a component, the head vacuum is not
activated, and the machine sets the Z-axis component picking-up position at the top
side of a component and sets the Z-axis component placing position at the position
lowered by the amount defined with the “Placing stroke” from the position 4 mm higher
than the PWB height in order to perform the series of PWB production operations.

(1) Setting items
No. Item Description
1 Prod. PWB num. Set the number of boards for blank run.
2 Exec. mode Select continuous production or step-by-step production.
3 Step No. Designate the start line number and the end line number for the range of the
placement data in the input order.
4 Place tracking After trial run of a board, designate whether or not to perform placement tracking
by the camera. If performed, set whether it is manual or automatic.
① Off: Placement tracking is not performed.
② Automatic: Placement tracking is performed automatically.
③ Manual: Stops at a placement position, and then goes to the next placement
position through a key-in by the operator.
5 Automatic interval When camera tracking is performed automatically, designate the waiting time
duration at a stop position.
The placement-offset value specified on the “Production conditions” screen is
applied to Dry run operation also.

(2) Operation
① Prod. PWB num.
Enter the predetermined number of PC boards to be produced. The number of
actual production is displayed according to the number of production boards
for operation option.
② Exec. mode
Select either “Continuous” or “Step” execution mode and press the RADIO
button for it.
③ Place tracking
Select whether the machine should use a camera to track a component
placement position after blank run and specify the tacking operation type with
the radio buttons.
④ Automatic interval
Set the automatic feeding interval in increments of 10 ms (as 10 ms = 1).
⑤ Step No.
Enter the starting and ending lines to determine the range of placement. The
value in the “Placed” field is reset to the initial value. The step number cannot
be changed when “Opt. order” is selected.
8.5.1 Starting the blank run
To start the blank run, press the START key after setting the desired blank-run
conditions.
CAUTION
The head starts to move immediately after the START key is pressed,
and then starting the blank run
To avoid a risk of injury, do not place your hand in the machine, nor
move your face or head close to the machine during operation.
Before pressing the START key, check that there is no one who is
working in the machine.
Before pressing the START key, check that there is no one who can
be injured when the head starts to move.
Before pressing the START key, check that there are no obstacles
(tools and jigs) left in the machine.
Even though you press the STOP key to interrupt the current blank
run, the machine replaces a nozzle with another one.
Therefore, the XY-axis and head continue moving.
To prevent you from being injured when you interrupt the blank run, do
not place your hand in the machine, nor move your face or head close
to the machine while it is operating.
The signal lights indicate that the machine is producing a PWB.

8.5.2 Display of the production status
When the START key is pressed and the production starts, the status of the
production (the same as that of the board production) appears on the screen.
For details, see “Display of the production status” of the “PC board production”.
Note that production management information is not created.
For the item of “Result”, the number increases with the increasing number of
produced boards but it is not referred to the production management information.
The Pause, Stop, and Quit commands in the execution of the blank run are the same
as those of the board production.
8.5.3
Placement tracking
(1) Automatic run
When “Automatic” is selected in the “Placement camera” field the placement
monitor camera moves over a point of placement after blank run, shoots the
status of placement, and outputs the result to the monitor screen.
The camera stops over the point for a time period set by “Automatic interval”,
then goes to the next point of placement to be monitored.
CAUTION
After blank run, tracking by the camera continues. To avoid a risk of
injury, do not place your hand in the machine, nor move your face or
head close to the machine during operation of the machine.
① To stop the camera
When you press the STOP key or the PAUSE key of the HOD, the machine
pauses at the next component placement point if the camera is moving, or
pauses at the current position if the camera stops. The screen shown in
Figure 8.5.3.1 appears.
