Skimming solder
DANGER
Severe or fatal injury from hot machine!
The entire machine is hot during operation and contains liquid metal!
a) Service on the hot machine may only be carried out by specially trained staff,
qualified for this type of work! For these types of work, a company internal oper-
ating procedure for protective clothing is to be issued!
b) You should always take into account the possibility for metal to spray out!
c) Special care is required when refilling the pot and working on the pot!
WARNING
Please wear protective clothing!
a) Wear safety shoes, face protection, gloves, protective apron!
b) The protective equipment must be suitable for handling hot objects!
c) Touching the hot solder surface is forbidden even with gloves!
WARNING
Severe or fatal injury from hot machine! Pot containing molten metal!
ü For any work being carried out, take the following safety precautions:
a) Service and cleaning work on hot pots must always be carried out by trained and
qualified personnel!
b) Create and follow an internal operating procedure for protective clothing!
WARNING
When bailing out liquid solder, there is a risk of severe, even lethal injuries!
Skilled personnel shall be involved only!
ü If there is a need to bail out solder from the crucible:
a) Fence the working area with a red and white chain with a warning sign.
b) Remove all obstacles to prevent tripping!
c) Use the bailer from the ERSA cleaning kit only.
d) To drain liquid solder, use suitable containers only.
e) Place suitable containers so that they could not upset, on a heatproof surface
next to the crucible, from which solder needs be bailed out.

only halfway with liquid solder in order to prevent any liquid solder from spilling or splashing!
ü Skim solder until the baffle plate (1) becomes visible above the pump riser
tube.
ü Suitable receptacles should be provided on a heat-resistant base.
a) Carefully use the scoop included in the ERSA cleaning set to skim solder off the
solder pot into the receptacle provided for this purpose, until the baffle plate
(1) of the pump riser tube is above the solder surface.
ð Risk of accident! Fill the scoop only halfway with liquid solder in order to
prevent any liquid solder from spilling or splashing!
ð Risk of accident! Fill the appropriate receptacles with liquid solder slowly
so as to prevent spilling or splashing.
b) Let the skimmed solder cool until it is completely solidified. Keep the scooped-
out solder ready for being poured in again.
c) Clean the baffle plate of the pump riser tube (1) with a silicone brush.
ð The process has now been completed.

a) Loosen four screws (1) using a socket spanner.
b) Screw the dismantling tool (3) into the thread (2).
c) Carefully lift the pump riser tube using the dismantling tool (3) so that the li-
quid solder residue can flow into the solder bath.
ð Risk of accident! Observe the weight of the pump riser tube!
d) Pull out the pump riser tube and place it on a heat-resistant base.
ð The process has now been completed.
